The Smithville Workforce Training Center (SWTC) offers various IT Courses free of charge to those who qualify thanks to strategic partnerships including the Federal Good Jobs Challenge Grant, Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area, and the American Rescue Plan Act.  

How do you qualify for the CompTIA Program?

  1. Must currently live or work in Bastrop, Caldwell, Fayette, or Lee,County 

  2. Men must have registered for selective service prior to 26 years old

  3. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.  

  4. Must complete a CASAS and Aptitude Assessment to demonstrate competency.

  5. Preference will be given to those who are already employed and looking to upskill with their current employer. 

There may be other grants or scholarship options to pay for the courses for those who do not qualify for the Good Jobs Challenge Grant.  Anyone wanting to take the IT Courses through the SWTC can do so by enrolling and paying for the course.  

Students can select from the following courses once an approved training plan is in place and approved with a SWTC case manager, the student, and the employer:

Comp TIA Testing and Certification

Once a student completes one of the selected Comp TIA prep courses they are ready to schedule the Comp TIA exam.  The exam will be scheduled and administered by the SWTC at an approved SWTC testing facility online.

Will the Smithville Workforce Training Center Help With CompTIA Job Placement?

Yes, the SWTC works closely with employers regionally.  It is the mission of the SWTC to ensure each student who completes the CompTIA courses are placed or upskilled in a job utilizing their newly acquired skill.
